Dear Friends and fellow Alumni,
Another recent storm, typhoon “Pablo” struck several provinces in the Visayas and Mindanao a couple of weeks ago and according to local news (NDRRMC-Nat’l Disaster Risk Reduction and management Council), 647 confirmed dead and 780 still missing as of Monday. To add insult to injury, our Gov’t is ill equipped to assist the thousands more that were hard hit.
A dear friend, Fr. Ben, who belongs to the arch diocese of Compostela Valley, a province of Tagum, Mindanao, one of the areas greatly affected by the storm, lost as much as 10 Parishes. Sadly, as the days and weeks go by, many more continue to suffer from shortage of food, water and medicine. Let alone many of whom lost everything including members of their family.
The military reported that 641 residents died due to falling trees, flashfloods, landslides and other incidents triggered by the powerful typhoon. A total of 487,364 families composed of 5,412,140 individuals in 38 cities and 30 provinces in nine regions were affected by the killer typhoon, which spawned floods, landslides and storm surges.
